About Classic Checkers

Classic Checkers (also called Draughts) is one of the world's oldest and best-loved two-player board games, played on an 8×8 board using only the dark squares.

How to play: Each player starts with 12 pieces. On your turn, move one piece diagonally forward to an empty dark square. To capture, jump diagonally over an adjacent opponent piece into the empty square beyond — and if the same piece can jump again, you keep jumping in the same turn.

Kings: When one of your pieces reaches the far edge of the board, it is crowned a King. Kings are more powerful because they can move and capture both forward and backward.

How to win: You win by capturing all of your opponent's pieces, or by leaving them with no legal move. The winner of a round goes first in the next.

A little strategy: Hold your back row early to stop your opponent from crowning Kings, fight for the centre, and trade pieces when you are ahead. Behind its simple rules lies deep strategy studied for centuries. Play with a friend on one screen — phone, tablet or computer — free and no download.
